In the USA, most homes have large trash bins that people roll out to the curb on collection day. The garbage truck uses a mechanical arm to grab the bin, lift it, empty it, and place it back—all in just a few seconds. No one even has to get out of the truck!
In Japan, it’s quite different. There are no mechanical lifting arms. Sanitation workers manually pick up the garbage bags, toss them into the back of the truck, and the truck’s compactor pulls and compresses the trash inside. On top of that, residents carefully separate their garbage into different categories, and each type has its own collection day.
